Eight out of every 11,000 cheerleaders sustain an injury that requires a trip to the hospital, and most of the injured cheerleaders are girls between the ages of 12 and 17. The reason for the rise of injuries is highschool is partly because there are much riskier stunts that are being implemented into cheerleading routines because of the competitiveness of the sport.

There are now more than 300,000 kids that are participating in cheerleading in North America. There were more than 20,000 bumps, breaks, bruises, scrapes, and much worse from cheerleading this past year. Some of the more serious injuries concussions and spinal injuries are sustained from falling off the top fo the pyramid or a broken leg from doing a basket toss.
